#6: Embroidery Template - eyeball flowers
Embroider flowers, improve a postcard, send snail mail
We did it again, y’all - template #2. Last month’s collage Mona Lisa was a ride. I hope y’all dig this month’s, too.
Like last time, scroll to the end to vote for our second-ever postcard-sized fiction prompt! You’ll be voting for one action and one word. I’ll infuse the into a short story small enough for a postcard and available for all subscribers (and their great aunts) to read, and y’all will make your own mini-stories too.
I’m blown away by how many of you participated last month, and had the extreme honor of finding out some of my friends are naturally gifted storytellers (looking at you, Austin Drawhorn!).
Today’s mailable wonder: Embroidered Flower Eyeballs
Since leaving the PNW and relocating here, drawing flowers and still lifes has captivated me, which is something that I’ve never been able to say before. When I lived in Moscow, I drew smokestacks and onion domes; maybe living somewhere wildly new inclines me to notice architecture and flowers and baubles. Or maybe it’s not that deep, and I just don’t want to bore y’all by only ever doing portraiture.
Don’t get me wrong, I love drawing/painting/stitching faces. But when I do, I veer into perfectionism. Flowers, however, are goofy and never uniform, perfect for rattling me loose from a perfectionist bent.
With that in mind…I proceeded to agonize over this project at each step, straining to achieve a loopy, easy vibe. Being a perfectionist about not being a perfectionist.
Oh, well. At least I tried! And you should too - so grab your embroidery floss, unearth an old postcard, and get ready. We’re making an eyeball bouquet.
